How to choose which photos to post after a trip

You came back with 600 photos and posted none of them. The problem is not taste, it is the pile. Here is the twenty-minute method that works by hand, and the app that does the same five steps for you.

The five steps

Split the trip into days or scenes. Never pick from the whole trip. Pick per day or per scene: the beach afternoon, the market, the hike. One post tells one story, and a smaller pile is a decision you can actually make.
Collapse the bursts. For every run of near-identical shots, keep exactly one before you judge anything else. This step alone removes most of the pile, and it needs no taste, only patience.
Pick a cover first. Choose the one frame that would make a stranger stop scrolling. Then pick the rest to support it: a wide establishing shot, a detail, a face, a moment. A carousel is a sequence, not a heap.
Crop everything to 4:5. Portrait 4:5 is the largest a photo gets in the Instagram feed. Crop every slide the same way so the set reads as one post, and check that nobody's head is at the edge.
Stop at the story, not at the count. Four good slides beat ten fine ones. If a slide does not add something new, it goes. Write one honest sentence as the caption and post.

How many photos should a trip carousel have?

As many as the story needs, usually 4 to 8. Instagram allows up to 20 slides, but engagement drops when slides repeat. One idea per slide, stop when the idea is complete.

Should I post one big trip recap or several posts?

Several. One post per day or scene keeps each carousel coherent and gives you a post every few days instead of one dump that nobody scrolls to the end of.
